The Hubble Space Telescope (often referred to as HST or Hubble) is a space telescope that was launched into low Earth orbit (540 km) on the 24 April 1990 with the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-31). The telescope completed 30 years in operation in April 2020 and could last until 2030–2040. One successor to the Hubble telescope is the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which was launched on the 25 December 2021.
