CTA International (Joint Venture 50/50 between BAE Systems and the French group Nexter) in charge of the new Franco-British calibre CTA (Cased telescoped Ammunition) 40 mm has announced the qualification of its gun and ammunition. The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the French procurement agency (DGA) declared the qualification jointly.
So far only the armoured-piercing and target-practice rounds ammunitionhave been qualified. Other types of ammunition will be qualified in the next two years.
This qualification allows both Scout and British WCSP programs, as well as for the French EBRC program, to start the demonstration phases with firing test.
CTA International has already delivered weapons for the British and French demonstration phases and is about to deliver ammunitions.
The 40 mm CTA is a new innovative type of ammunition.
With its unique rotating breech, CTA 40mm takes up considerably less room than conventional medium-calibre rivals and uses an ammunition design in which the projectile is telescoped in a cartridge can.
