Foreword

The advent of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has redefined the 21th century battle space due to their ability to perform tasks which are categorized often as dull, dirty, and dangerous with the essential advantage of not putting human life at risk.

Just as a blatant example of their importance : U.S. military forces — which more or less represent half of the world’s defense budget — operate today some 11,000 drones !

Highlighted by the conflicts of this new century (starting with the recent one between Azerbaijan and Armenia), remotely piloted flying drones — especially the lightest and cheapest, consumable or not, sold for less than $1,000 each and recently $300 for cheap Ukrainian 3D copies of Chinese Mavic drones - are currently being used by the thousands on the Donbas and Crimean fronts, whether on the Russian or Ukrainian side. The latter country also has the combat influx it needs to hastily develop a war industry full of tricks and innovations.
